What is poetry on demand? In person, someone who’s interested in a poem takes a seat and then we have a brief conversation about who the poem is for.
I ask for words or ideas that could go in the poem or even if there’s a story that should be included. Broad themes and specific details are all welcome.
Then I pen a poem in about 10 mins. The average length of poems range from 10 to 16 lines. After that, I type it out on my Underwood 315 typewriter, put it in an envelope and wait for them to come back and pick it up.
I find myself enjoying this process so much that I have decided to start poetry on demand commissions. These will be more involved, developed poems that will also require a longer conversation, either in person or over the phone. The poem will be typed and mailed to you anywhere in the world.
